【The Resilient Diary - Day 3 (Osaka - HK)】Living in the Moment

The weather and general sailing condition

We started the day with a clear blue sky and a bright shining sun.

Today’s weather was still absolutely lovely to sail with.

We have wind that is big enough to keep us moving forward, but not too strong which will make us feel tough.

Waves are slight to moderate.

Experienced some big waves occasionally while I was driving, which I needed to use my body weight to control the wheel (the wheel is almost as tall as my height lol).

That was totally a workout. It is amazing to feel the waves hitting on the boat and how i can control the wheel to let the boat ‘surf’ with the waves. It is really fun.

Progress of our journey

We have passed through the Kuroshio Current in just 2.5 days. Woohoo!

That was great progress on our journey.

We have sailed 300 nautical miles and it is 1200 nautical miles away from our destination.

We are grateful for the good weather. Our boat-going beam reach allows us to move speedily.

Observing sea creatures

While I was on watches during the daytime, I was lucky to spot a few flying fish and 2 dolphins hopping out of the water.

It was my first time to see wild sea animals.

I asked our Skipper, Amelia, why do flying fish fly above the water?

She said it is because the flying fish thought our boat was a giant fish, so they need to escape from us quickly XD. It is so adorable to see them flying in a big group.

Reflection

One of our watch leaders, Sa, has raised a question that I think is quite interesting to think about:

The weather is very nice and our journey has been going on smoothly, will we feel less accomplished if the weather is this ‘easy’?

To be honest, I would say no to the question. It reminds me of a quote from a book — “No matter where you are, be there fully” from the Power Of Now. We can't change what we have experienced nor predict what is ahead of us.

What is most important is to stay present. Enjoy the present gives us.

So, no matter what we experience, I just want to say, I have never regretted being part of 20IMPACT20.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoy the updates. Talk to you all soon.
