【2024 20IMPACT20 Diary of Resilience - Leg 1 Day 4】Accepting the Unexpected ... Weather

2024 Nov 11

Written by: Claudia and Hannah (Leg 1)

Ever since we got the news that we had to return to Hong Kong because of the typhoon, our team has been feeling down.

The few days we have been on standby have made me feel like the last voyage was a dream, a wild dream of sailing to Okinawa.

Suddenly the reality of the typhoon woke us up and our skipper had to make the heartbreaking decision to turn the wheel 180 degrees and head back to Hong Kong.

While we were expecting our next destination to be Taiwan, we heard that 4 new typhoons were on their way, totally unprecedented for this time of year. No more going to Taiwan. We are bound for Hong Kong.

Our whole team will stick together and try to cheer each other up with sarcasm and jokes.

We thought resilient youth came from battling rough seas, but this time we are being challenged differently. Our resilience comes from accepting the unexpected and trying to make the best of it. We have adjusted our plans and expectations.

To make the most of our time and resources, we have come up with a journey around Hong Kong, the Resilience 360! We are still racing against the typhoons, but this time we have more stops and options. As Outward Bound says, make the plan, but never fall in love with the plan. This time we have made several plans and made sure that all the crew are prepared to change the plans at any time. Flexibility is resilience.

As we write this blog, we have already set sail with a new vision in mind.
